Despite its slowest offensive start of the season, the fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team found its rhythm and pulled away for a 93–77 win over Duke on Thursday night in the ACC/SEC Challenge at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The victory pushed LSU to 9–0 on the season and extended the Tigers’ winning streak to nine games. Duke dropped to 3–6 with the loss. While LSU’s NCAA-record streak of eight consecutive 100-point games came to an end, the Tigers still topped 90 points for the ninth straight outing, underscoring their offensive consistency.
LSU will return to the court Sunday in New Orleans, where it will face the New Orleans Privateers for the second time this season. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CT at the Lakefront Arena and will be streamed on ESPN+. Fans can also listen on the LSU Sports Radio Network with Patrick Wright and Shaeeta Williams on the call.
Six Tigers finished in double figures, led by senior Flau’jae Johnson, who posted 18 points, five rebounds, and three assists. MiLaysia Fulwiley added 16 points, while Amiya Joyner and Mikaylah Williams each scored 14. Kate Koval chipped in 13, and Grace Knox rounded out the group with 12.
Duke jumped out early, opening the game on an 11–1 run before LSU settled in. The Tigers responded by chipping away at the deficit and pulled within one late in the first quarter. After early momentum swings, Duke held a narrow 24–20 lead at the end of the period.
LSU took control in the second quarter, quickly tying the game and surging ahead with a 6–0 run. The teams traded baskets through much of the quarter until the Tigers created separation, taking a 42–38 lead with just over three minutes remaining. LSU carried that momentum into halftime, holding a 51–43 advantage.
The Tigers maintained their edge in the third quarter behind a strong stretch from Williams, who knocked down key shots to keep Duke at bay. Her late three-pointer capped the period and sent LSU into the fourth quarter with a 71–61 lead. Williams scored 10 points in the frame on 4-of-6 shooting, including two triples.
Johnson opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to push LSU’s lead to 13. Duke trimmed the margin to single digits early, but LSU responded with a decisive 16–5 run to seal the 93–77 win.
