Alabama pulls an upset over kentucky

Alabama delivered its most significant win over a ranked opponent in nearly three decades, knocking off No. 6/7 Kentucky 64–51 on Thursday night inside Coleman Coliseum.

The victory marked Alabama’s highest-ranked win since 1997 and lifted the Crimson Tide to 16–1 overall and 2–1 in SEC play. Kentucky dropped to 15–2 (2–1 SEC) with the loss.

After a tightly contested opening quarter that featured five lead changes and ended with Kentucky holding a one-point edge, Alabama seized control early in the second period. An 8–0 run flipped the momentum, and the Tide never relinquished the lead over the final 27:46 of action.

Jessica Timmons powered Alabama offensively, scoring 24 points for her fifth 20-point performance of the season. She shot an efficient 8-of-16 from the floor and knocked down 6-of-7 free throws. Diana Collins added 16 points to provide a steady secondary scoring punch.

Alabama’s defense and rebounding proved just as decisive. Karly Weathers and Naomi Jones anchored the interior, combining for 16 of the Tide’s 40 rebounds. Weathers was relentless on the perimeter, recording seven steals, while Jones protected the rim with three blocks as Alabama stifled Kentucky down the stretch.

The Crimson Tide’s balance on both ends of the floor sealed a statement win and continued its strong start to conference play.
