WPA Bruins Spring Tipoff: Young Guns Making Noise Early

The Steel City played host once again to the WPA Bruins Spring Tipoff, which has cemented itself as one of the premier spring events in the country. Held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, this event brought together some of the best talent from across the map—teams from DMV, PA, NY, GA, WV, TN, IN, MI, CT, and OH all showed up and showed out.

With the April evaluation period just around the corner, this was the perfect warmup. While talent was on full display at every level, our staff kept a close eye on the younger prospects—those just beginning their grassroots journeys but already looking like future Division I standouts.

Here are a few names you need to know now before they blow up this spring and summer:

2029 Laniyah Ginger | Team Durant 15U EYBL

Laniyah is well on her way to becoming one of the top forwards in Virginia in the 2029 class. She’s got an old-school game—nothing flashy, just efficient, composed, and physical. Great touch from 12 feet, soft hands, and impressive footwork. She also has the ability to lead the break, which speaks to her versatility.

What makes her ceiling even higher is the guidance she’s receiving from DMV coaching veteran Mike Teasley, and the mentorship of WNBA alum Nikki Teasley. With that foundation, we see Laniyah evolving into a legitimate Power Four prospect.

2030 Jylin Edmonson | FBC Youngunz UAA

One of our favorite players from the weekend. Jylin is a quiet assassin who can play anywhere from the 1 to the 3. As she matures, we see her really doing a lot from the one, creating matchup problems and freeing up her backcourt mate 2030 Aubrey Bush (not that she needs the help) to really go crazy.

She's a smooth, athletic wing who defends passing lanes, can shoot it from deep, and has a natural feel for the game. She set the tone early for the Youngunz in their game against Team Durant 15U EYBL. Without a doubt, Power Four potential.

2029 Trinity Finnie | WPA Bruins UA Future

Trinity was one of the most creative and confident young guards in the gym. She has a natural ability to create her own shot and get to her spots—no matter who’s guarding her. She can finish with either hand, absorbs contact well, and has a crafty bag that allows her to adjust mid-air.

Her footwork is impressive, especially in tight spaces or once she picks up her dribble—she consistently creates separation with just one or two decisive moves. On the defensive end, she’s a pest—loves to gamble for steals and forces pressure. The Ohio native is currently projecting as a mid-major prospect, but her upside and skill set scream Power Four potential.

2028 Kamri Sanders | AEBL 15U

Kamri is one of those players who sneaks up on you—and when she does, you realize you slept. She’s a classic tweener but in the best way: a stretch 4 who can handle, finish through contact, and knock down the three. Her inside-out versatility makes her a valuable piece on any roster.

She has a decent handle and deceptive quickness. If she adds a consistent 10–12 foot pull-up jumper off the dribble, it’ll take her game to another level. Right now, she projects as a low D1 prospect, but with the right fit and development, mid-major is on the table.

2028 Janaya Cooper | Always 100 3SSB

Janaya is an all-everything guard currently playing a bit out of position, but still managing to impact the game at a high level. She thrives getting downhill and has a reliable pull-up jumper off the bounce.

What stood out was her court vision and leadership—she controlled pace, directed traffic, and stayed poised under pressure. Janaya is already showing she can handle a system and a team. At this stage, she’s tracking toward a mid-major level player.

Final Take

The WPA Bruins Spring Tipoff never disappoints, and this year’s event proved that the future is bright—real bright. These young ladies showed poise, potential, and polish beyond their years. We'll be tracking their growth closely throughout the travel season.
