La Vega is determined to get back to State

The journey for the top-ranked La Vega Girls Basketball team towards back-to-back state titles persists, with the Lady Pirates securing a hard-fought victory over Hardin-Jefferson.

The Hardin-Jefferson Hawks and the La Vega Pirates squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 64-61. Hardin-Jefferson's loss signaled the end of their 13-game winning streak.

La Vega was led to victory by Angela Carroll and Kiyleyah Parr. Carroll dropped a double-double on 14 points and 18 rebounds, while Parr scored 29 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Parr has scored all season. CeMaria Kelly was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.

Hardin-Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 26-11. As for La Vega, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 32-8 record this season. Hardin-Jefferson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.

As for La Vega, they will move on to face Madisonville on the 24th.
