Wichita Falls, TX was the site for some of the biggest match ups in 5A Region 1. No. 12 Argyle came out strong in Saturday's final, but ultimately couldn't hold off No. 1 Mansfield Timberview, who secured a 44-35 victory.

The Lady Eagles fell just short of making their ninth state tournament appearance in the last 11 years, in their second year at the 5A level. Despite taking an early lead at Kay Yeager Coliseum, Timberview rallied in the third quarter to seize control and secure their spot at the 5A state tournament.

Despite the loss, Argyle head coach Chance Westmoreland commended his team's performance against the state's top-ranked 5A squad, especially considering their double-overtime win over Amarillo Tascosa in the regional semifinal the previous night. With this win, Timberview (39-1) booked their ticket to the 5A state tournament at the Alamodome in San Antonio next week. The 5A semifinals are scheduled for 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Thursday, with the championship game set for 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 2.

The Lady Eagles (34-6) fell short after reaching their ninth regional championship game in the last 11 years, their first since moving up to Class 5A. They had an impressive streak of seven straight 4A state title game appearances from 2014-20, winning five consecutive titles from 2015-19. Argyle faced a setback last season, losing in overtime to Justin Northwest in the playoffs, their first at the 5A level.

A tense start saw Argyle take a 4-2 lead after the first quarter, with Samantha Bacon contributing an early layup and Landry Murphy sinking two free throws. The second quarter saw fluctuations in momentum, with the Lady Eagles going on a 5-0 run to lead 11-6 before Timberview closed the gap to 11-10 by halftime.

Argyle dominated the boards in the first half with 10 offensive rebounds but couldn't convert them into second-chance points. Timberview found their rhythm in the third quarter, taking their first lead and maintaining it through a 28-24 advantage heading into the fourth. Gabby Campbell led Argyle's efforts with eight points in the quarter. She finished with 12 points overall, supported by contributions from Kennedy Hafer, Samantha Bacon, Wrigley Green, Mallory Millington, and Landry Murphy.

Campbell and Bacon earned spots on the all-tournament team.

Argyle struggled offensively in the second half under Timberview's pressure defense, leading to turnovers and limited scoring opportunities. Timberview extended their lead with an 11-4 run in the fourth quarter, securing the win with Chrishawn Coleman leading the charge with 13 points, including nine in the final quarter. Emilee Jones, Brooklyn Terry, and Kamryn Wilson also made significant contributions.

Coleman was named tournament MVP, with Wilson and Jones joining her on the all-tournament team.

The loss marked the end of a successful season for Argyle, which exceeded preseason expectations despite losing three starters. Ranked 19th in 5A at the start of the season, the Lady Eagles proved their resilience and ability to compete at the 5A level.
