In a thrilling upset on Sunday at Carmichael Arena, No. 22 UNC women's basketball team defeated No. 4 Notre Dame by a score of 60 to 50. UNC's first-year guard, Paulina Paris, played a crucial role in the win, recording a career-high of 16 points.

The Tar Heels came out strong on the defensive end, holding Notre Dame to a season-low seven points in the first quarter. Despite their strong defense, UNC only held a slim six-point lead going into the second quarter as the Fighting Irish started to find their rhythm.

Notre Dame took control in the second quarter, going on a six-point run to take a 20 to 17 lead, their first of the game. At halftime, Notre Dame held a 25 to 22 lead after UNC's Olivia Miles added a layup and two free throws for the Fighting Irish.

The third quarter proved to be critical for UNC as they outscored Notre Dame 17 to 9, with an increased tempo on offense and dominant rebounding on defense. UNC held Notre Dame scoreless for almost six minutes during this period, recording eight defensive rebounds.

The fourth quarter saw Paris take over, scoring 11 of UNC's 13 points in a crucial stretch of the game. Her impressive performance included two 3-pointers, two layups, and a free throw. Paris was the only scorer for the Tar Heels for almost six minutes in the quarter.

Thanks to UNC's dominant third quarter and Paris' heroics in the fourth, the Tar Heels sealed the game with a 60 to 50 win over Notre Dame.

UNC's freshman Paulina Paris finished with 16 points, Deja Kelly 14 points, and Alyssa Utsby 12 points.
