NYG Hoops - Joe Fenelon held his 8th annual Super64 showcase at Truman HS in the Bronx, NY. NYG has been a mainstay in showcase events and per usal this event was full of aspiring prospects. The two session event featured talented players across the Tri state area from 6th - 12th grade. I was able to sit in on the HS session two, which had a number of competitive games with players displaying there individual talents during the round robin style of play, here are a few of the stand out prospects.
24’ Alyssa Febres -Castle AAU / Saunders HS
Smooth guard with a scorer mentality, gets to her spots off the bounce and nice hesitation moves. She also has a nice presence and feel for the game with good court vision as she dropped a few dimes in transition.
25’ Nila Girard -New Heights / ICM NJ
Workhorse type at 5’10 with a dominant frame and natural aggression. Nila is a walking double double as she rebounds well out of position with great hands and finishes at a high rate around the rim. Shows flashes in transition, as her footwork in the paint and ball handling develops, she will be an inside/out nightmare.
26’ Madison Howard -Castle AAU / Scanlan HS
Madi may be one of the most athletic kids in her class. Her speed and elevation is through the roof. She had her way in transition slashing and finishing over and through defenders with elite body control. Was impressed with her improved jump shot as she hit a few from deep and showed consistency with the mid-range. A tighter handle will take her game to the next level.
26’ Gigi Battle NJ Gems / Rutgers Prep
Gigi is the perfect storm of size, athleticism and strength. She is a slasher type guard who searches for contact and has the ability to finish through it. Quick first step getting paint touches at will with good court vision making the right pass. Would like to see her utilize her pull up more as she has as nice release point and form, it will come in due time.
27’ Regina Baker -New Heights / BVM Middle School
Young lefty guard that plays the game with passion and purpose. She constantly applies pressure as she looks to attack lanes on every touch. Elite athleticism, excels in transition and has a nice touch on her jump shot. She has the tools and as she continues to develop, she will be in the conversation.
