#1 Sidwell Friends Quakers(DC) vs #3 St. John Vianney

This past Sunday in the Northeast, Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, DE She Got Game Classic Super Games Mecca were back on and ready for the action.

The Double header event was headlined by a highly anticipated match up between two of the nations top programs with #1 Sidwell Friends Quakers(DC) & #3 St.John Vianney Lady Lancers(NJ) going head to head. Both teams came in with their undefeated records on the line. The game featured multiple Power 5 recruits such as McDonald's All American 22’ Kiki Rice (UCLA commit). One of the most dynamic wings in the class of 23’ is Jadyn Donovan along with the sharp shooting point guard 24’ Leah Harmon for Sidwell Friends. St. John Vianney featured one of the toughest back court duo's in New Jersey in 22’ Madison St. Rose (Princeton commit) and highly recruited 23’ Zoey Brooks, who led St. John Vianney into battle.

The game was played at a high level from the tip. SJV showed flashes of just how good they can be and why they are considered to be the “standard of excellence” in the state of New Jersey. They jumped out to an early 10 point lead in the 1st quarter led by Madison St. Rose. She hit two early 3 pointers in the first quarter to get the Lancers going. Soon after, Sidwell Friends seemed to find their groove and utilize their length and athleticism to apply the defensive pressure. This forced SJV to start their offensive attack further away on the perimeter and made it hard for the Lancers to get into their offensive set. As they began to pick it up on defensive the Quakers offense began to click, led by Leah Harmon who knocked down key shots from long distance. This sparked the first quarter run that never seemed to slow down. As the second quarter began Jadyn Donovan started to flex her muscles as she created havoc on the defensive end and finished a number of occasions at the rim. SJV did however make a run to end the 2nd quarter closing a double digit lead going into the half to a manageable 38-30 halftime score.

In the second half, Sidwell continued to keep a strong hold on the Lancers and maintained control of the game. In the fourth quarter, Kiki Rice began to impose her will as she sliced and diced on a number of beautiful finishes tallying 6pts in the quarter. Jadyn Donovan continued to put her hand print on the victory getting into the passing lanes and blocking shots to create transition opportunities for her teammates. She was in full attack mode as she grabbed multiple offensive boards finishing with 8 points and 5 rebounds in the final quarter to help secure the 73-58 victory. Jadyn was also the She Got Game MVP. Four players finished in double digits for Sidwell, which proved to be too much for St. John Vianney. Madison St. Rose was smooth and very effective throughout the contest as she finished with a game high 28 points while Zoey Brooks finished with 17 points for the Lancers in the loss.

South Shore vs St. John's

The second match up was PSAL powerhouse South Shore HS Lady Vikings (NY) who came in with an unblemished 22-0 record. They faced Washington Catholic league powerhouse St. John’s College HS Cadets (DC) who are 16-4. South Shore featured a very young and talented back court in 25’ point guard Ariel Little, her partner in crime 24’ Yahmani Mackayle along with 22’ Zakieya Lucas who did a little bit of everything to anchor the South Shore attack. St. John’s HS featured ESPN HoopGurlz Top 60 recruit 22’ Delaney Thomas who has great size at 6'3, 22’ Gianna Boone who was simply a workhorse for the cadets and 24’ point guard Kendal Walker who did a great job handling pressure and orchestrating her team's attack.

From the tip, South Shore jumped out of the gates with their pressure defense, which seemed to catch St. Johns off guard, as they turned the ball over multiple times in the 1st quarter. This led to easy transition opportunities for the Vikings. Senior guard Zakieya Williams tallied 10pts in the quarter including two 3’s and carried the load for her squad finishing with a game high 26 points. St. Johns soon figured out how to beat the pressure and went on a run of their own, behind the Cadets Delaney Thomas. She showed a nice mid-range hitting multiple elbow extended jump shots which she continued to do throughout the contest finishing with 25 points. Gianna Boone was the She Got Game MVP and left her imprint on the game with big plays down the stretch. From rebounding to hustle plays she finished with 16 points.

Down the stretch after going back and forth, St. Johns took the lead by 3 points with under seven seconds left on the clock. It looked like South Shore was out of time but the young sniper, Ariel Little had other plans. She pulled from beyond 30 feet without hesitation and knocked down her fourth 3 pointer of the game to send it into overtime. Ariel got right to it, knocking down a deep shot to open up the extra period to give South Shore momentum. However, Gianna Boone 8 points in OT and Delaney Thomas were able to maintain their composure and St John’s proved to be too much for the young South Shore team. St. John's closed out the overtime period 12-9 securing the 70-67 victory.
